"The bond between friends isn't always a victimless act" This was one of the first things I ever made! I decided to do a music video, and mainly focus on playing with the lyrics as if it was a conversatin between two people. The story is that of two friends, one in a relationship that begins to present itself as physically abusive. With one friend falling victim, unable to break free or reach out for help, our second character decides to take matters into their own hands. You could label this as a revenge piece, the abuser gets the ultimate karma, however that leaves 1/2 of our duo going away for the crime of justice, leaving the one they were protecting fully alone, but safe. Why'd I make my first film depressing? Couldn't tell you, but it was a LOT of fun as I did it with my best friend and my now wife. The colors are more than aethetic and actually represent different characters/emotions: Yellow=Peace Blue= Emotional Distress Purple= Romantic Love Green= Platonic Love Red= The Revenge Orange= Realization --> At the end our two main characters switch because one is now distressed at the news, and the other is at peace with their decision Some fun facts: -Me and my wife (who plays the abuser in this film) got Covid not even 4 days after wrapping on filming, which means we did the music video in less than great health but absolutely gave it our all. -The color style of the "revisited" version came from my very first draft of the script, in my first rendition I opted to not do it but later wanted to revisit it and see if I liked it more. Turns out I did, and my audience did too :) -I'm not sure if he still does but one of my mentors (in school and life) Kirk Wise, used my video as an example for semesters after mine. Which means I had people I had never met coming up to talk to me about the video, which was jarring but also super fun!
